Peer Parliament: Mobilitate

Peer Parliament: Mobility – How We Move More Sustainably

Date: April 28, 2026
Time: 19:00-21:00
Location: Pur și Simplu Verde, 138 Ferdinand I Boulevard, ap. 2, Bucharest

About the Event

What is a Peer Parliament?

A Peer Parliament is not a formal conference or a rigid debate. It is a structured yet relaxed conversation where participants learn from one another, test arguments, and vote on the solutions they consider most effective. The format follows five simple steps: setting the stage, introduction, discussion of the key questions, and concluding with final results.

Theme of this edition: mobility

This edition focuses on how we move within and between cities. The discussion is built around two key questions: what would help us use cars less for short trips, and what would encourage us to choose trains or buses instead of flying for longer journeys.

This is a critical issue. Transport accounts for nearly a quarter of Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions, with over 70% coming from road transport. At the same time, achieving climate neutrality requires reducing transport emissions by 90% by 2050.

Why does it matter

Mobility is not just about transport. It is about health, quality of life, accessibility, costs, and how our cities are designed.

Peer Parliament materials clearly show that cycling is one of the most efficient options for short trips, both in terms of emissions and urban space. Cyclists in the EU avoid over 16 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, and switching from a car to a bicycle can significantly reduce an individual’s daily emissions.

At the same time, public transport can reduce congestion and pollution in cities, especially when it is accessible, safe, and well-connected. For longer distances, trains remain one of the cleanest options, while aviation is among the most polluting—particularly for short-haul flights. Materials indicate that flying generates close to 300 g of CO₂ per passenger-km, whereas trains are by far the least polluting option.

How does this work

The event will follow an interactive format. We will begin with a short introduction and ground rules to ensure that all participants feel comfortable and able to contribute. We will then go through the main debate questions step by step. For each question, there will be a phase of information, discussion, and voting. At the end, we will consolidate the results and conclude with group insights. The format is designed to ensure that everyone actively participates—not just listens.

A certificate of participation will be awarded to all participants.

Who is this for?

The event is open to anyone interested in climate, cities, transport, public policy, and everyday life. You do not need to be an expert. In fact, that is the point: to bring together people with different perspectives and experiences and see what solutions emerge from a well-moderated conversation.
