Aparna Mathur is a senior economist in the White House Council of Economic Advisers, an agency within the Executive Office of the US President whose role is to provide him with objective economic advice based on which domestic and international policies are decided. Dr. Mathur also serves on the Board of the Department of Economics at the University of Maryland. In 2005, she earned a doctorate in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Mathur was a researcher in economics at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, DC, where he coordinated the AEI-Brookings project on paid family and medical leave, for which she was included in the 2017 Politico 50 list. its focus has been on income inequality and mobility, fiscal policy, labor markets and small businesses. Dr. Mathur was also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University's School of Public Policy, now the McCourt School of Public Policy. She has spoken several times as an expert before the American Congress and has published articles in several top scientific journals. Her work has been cited in well-known publications such as The Economist, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Bloomberg, Financial Times and Businessweek.
