Developing an Interactive Satellite-Based Educational Program for Green Week

Developing an Interactive Satellite-Based Educational Program for Green Week

This innovative project aims to integrate satellite data into environmental education by developing an interactive program designed for 5th-8th grade students. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with professors and students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), USA, who will work alongside the Pur și Simplu Verde team to create modern and engaging educational resources for Green Week.

Green Week (Săptămâna Verde) is a national environmental education initiative that encourages schools across Romania to organize activities focused on environmental protection and climate change awareness.

Project's Objectives

Develop lesson plans for 5th-8th grade students based on satellite imagery analysis.
Integrate key environmental themes – forests, air quality, water, urban heat islands, and land use changes – into a structured educational program.
Create an interactive educational game on our online platform, where students can make decisions based on real satellite data.
Adapt and localize educational resources developed by NASA, ESA, and other international organizations for use in Romanian schools.
Test and implement materials in collaboration with Romanian teachers to ensure effectiveness and classroom applicability.

WPI Team

This project is a collaboration with two professors and five students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), USA, who will be in Romania from March 15 to May 5, 2025, working directly with local schools and teachers.
